چکیده

We describe a methodology for the analysis of radiographic images which is based on two major techniques: (1) qualitative geometric abstraction and (2) ontological analysis of anatomical structures. The first technique is a bottom-up approach to extract qualitative spatial relations from medical radiographic images and the second technique is a top-down approach to determine which qualitative relations can possibly hold between the parts of (normal and pathological) anatomical structures. The process of image analysis is both a process of feature extraction, and the extraction of qualitative relations among features. These qualitative relations are then used to classify the images within the ‘space’ of ontological possibilities.

Designing an Ontology for Knowledge Discovery in Iran’s Vaccine

Ontology is a requirement engineering product and the key to knowledge discovery. It includes the terminology to describe a set of facts, assumptions, and relations with which the detailed meanings of vocabularies among communities can be determined. This is a qualitative content analysis research. This study has made use of ontology for the first time to discover the knowledge of vaccine in Ir...

A Semantic Model for Multimodal Data Mining in Healthcare Information Systems

-Electronic health records (EHRs) are representative examples of multimodal/multisource data collections; including measurements, images and free texts. The diversity of such information sources and the increasing amounts of medical data produced by healthcare institutes annually, pose significant challenges in data mining. In this paper we present a novel semantic model that describes knowledg...

Automatic tissue classification by integrating medical expert anatomic ontologies

Image segmentation techniques have been widely used in medical image analysis. However, existing methods can not provide exact physical significance of segmented image regions because they are mainly based on basic image features such as grey level and texture without taking into account specialised medical knowledge. However, medical knowledge plays an indispensable role when doctors analyse m...

The effect of incorporating the quantitative analysis besides visual assessments of 18F-FDG brain PET images for the localization of epileptogenic zones

Introduction: FDG Brain PET is a valuable paraclinical tool for presurgical assessments of patients suffering from refractory epilepsy. By the widespread accessibility of PET, recognizing the functional lesions has become a current practical method especially in preoperative evaluations of the partial epilepsy disorders. The aim of our study was to assess the impact of quantit...

A Semantic Image Annotation Model to Enable Integrative Translational Research

Integrating and relating images with clinical and molecular data is a crucial activity in translational research, but challenging because the information in images is not explicit in standard computer-accessible formats. We have developed an ontology-based representation of the semantic contents of radiology images called AIM (Annotation and Image Markup). AIM specifies the quantitative and qua...
